SCAS 2025: Diving into a Wetland Adventure!

By Jordan Li and Tyler Hampton

From February 19 to 22, the SOLUTIONSCAPES Wetland Subgroup made a splash at the Society of Canadian Aquatic Sciences (SCAS) 2025 conference. It was an exciting few days of learning, networking, and sharing research with scientists, policymakers, and industry practitioners.

One of the biggest highlights of the conference was the diverse range of research presented. We learned about projects on aquatic ecosystem restoration and dynamics happening across Canada, from the east coast to the prairies. Researchers showcased both the abiotic and biotic components of aquatic ecosystems, highlighting cutting-edge work in the field.

Our team contributed to the discussion with presentations on carbon dynamics in southwestern Ontario wetlands (Jordan Li, and Shayna Meinzinger, Cooper Pickering, and Avery Opalka and Dr. Tonya DelSontro) and the challenges of wetland loss in the Canadian Prairies (Dr. Tyler Hampton). Beyond the research, we engaged in thought-provoking discussions, built new connections, and left feeling inspired to continue working toward healthier aquatic ecosystems.

We can’t wait for next year’s deep dive!
